RUSTY AND RED: Rhodesian Ridgeback mix Brothers
LOCATED IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, WILLING TO TRANSPORT TO GREAT HOME. WOULD DO BEST WITH AN EXTREMELY PATIENT OWNER WHO IS WILLING TO GENTLY SOCIALIZE THEM. Dog training experience a plus! Must love and understand the Ridgeback breed.
Rusty and Red are brothers, approximately one year old. They are not strongly bonded and do not have to be adopted together. They are Rhodesian Ridgeback mixes, they do not have a ridge running up their back, but are similar to Rhodesians in every other way. They are stunning dogs: check out the deep chest, long forelegs, high elbows close to the body. Their coats are short, dense, and glossy, hindquarters are muscular. They are shy, sweet, sensitive fellows. Not aggressive. They are fearful of small children and wary of strangers. RUSTY has a "black mask" on his face, and his face is a bit narrower than Red's. RED is, well, red and is wearing a red bandana in these photos). They are shy and submissive, and so they need to build trust. Those who know this type of dog are well aware these dogs are sensitive and respond only to positive reinforcement, they need a good pack leader. They also need plenty of exercise--they are a hunting breed. A secure fence is a MUST.
We are showing them kindness and love, and they are coming out of their shells. RUSTY spent a month in a boarding/training facility and is now a much more confident dog. He knows basic commands. Both boys enjoy playing with female dogs--running and wrestling are favorite pastimes. Neither is particularly interested in cats (they are, however, interested in cat food).
We are looking for a gentle, compassionate, experienced pack leader who is willing to patiently train them and teach them the world isn’t a scary place- they are safe, and they are loved.
